Seaside Cottage
A petite charming Irish seaside cottage
An endearing Irish seaside cottage from the 1950s, which was vacant for several years and in need of being brought back to life again. After a complete ‘back-to-the-walls’ gut job and digging out for a new foundation, this petite house revealed its true charm and became a modernised comfortable home with the nostalgia and patina of the past.
The original checkerboard terracotta tiles in hallway was preserved and to elevate the soul of the cottage; ceiling beams were exposed and a traditional clay brick herringbone floor laid in the country style kitchen. The dusty green gallery kitchen had french doors leading out to the small garden.
Warm tones throughout the home with a focus of seamlessly blending new with old.
Although the bathroom is petite in footprint it is a perfect calm space with the sandy coloured stone tiles on the walls and floors. The sleek modern matt black shower and mirror give the room elegant lines and matches the light fittings. To go with the age of the house and antique sideboard was turned into a vanity with a basin and a brass tap.
With small bedrooms built-in wardrobes were a must. To save space and go with the cottage feel, the wardrobes are elegantly covered by light white linen curtains. Each bedroom has headboard wall panelling to not only save space but also to make the spaces warm and inviting.
After a windy walk by the beach – this is were you go for a cup of tea
